First sabotage in American Aviation History

United 23, the Boeing 247 that crashed near Chesterton, Indiana I have had it confirmed from sources as the first-ever sabotage of a commercial airliner in American aviation history.

I therefore CONTINUE to find it amazing that there's nothing about it anywhere and nobody in Indiana seems to know anything about it. Crazy considering the historical importance of it.

  1. Good news!

I just discovered that Bryan W. Alaspa has written a book about this incident, see here:

I will be ordering my copy next pay check!

I am so happy to see that someone has sleuthed this crash and written a book.

  3. Chris, a thousand thanks for the link and bringing this to my attention. Looks like this Bryan guy must have done some extensive research. Wonder where he got his stuff???

  4. Comet,

I am trying to contact the author but every time I try to post a message it asks for a password (with no place to enter the password, HA!).

    Doesnt matter.

He seems to have hit the payload on FBI Freedom of Information Act.

I tried with FBI but did not try FOIA.

I am going to get his book in July. CANT WAIT!

Just glad NC13304 has not been forgotten. Right?

    Cheerz,
    Chris B.

  7. My Grandmothers sister was Dorothy Dwyer, one of the passengers on this flight. She was headed to get married. My Grandmother had recounted some of this story to me many years ago.On a whim I decided to try to find some info on this crash. I believe my Grandmother was supposed to be on the flight and was late. She suffered from a recurring nightmare until she died in 1999 at the age of 94. Thank you for the time you spend investigating this!

  8. @nyctracey. Thanks for posting. Fascinating story about your great Grandmother's sister (I guess then your great aunt). There has been some renewed interest in the crash in the last couple of years and I think a lot of people were and still are mystified by what or rather WHO brought down this flight. Was your grandmother able to fly or would she never get in a plane? Amazing that she suffered that recurring nightmare - it must have been a tragic loss.
