As a slightly unusual post on an aviation related blog, I have come across an article on Clark County, WI records that has been taken from an original newspaper article in 1940.
That newspaper is the Stevens Point Journal of 26 September 1940.
It details the wedding of Velma Scribner and Lawrence J. Harvey in Los Angeles. Velma was of course Alice Scribner's sister (the air hostess) and goes into say that Velma wore the wedding dress that Alice had intended to use back in 1933 had she not been killed over Chesterton, Indiana that fateful night of the crash.
What a lovely thing for the sister to do. At any rate here is the link to the Clark County records: http://wvls.lib.wi.us/ClarkCounty/clark/data/1/bbs39/39895.htm
That is a very lovely sentiment ... so nice that her sister did that.

I suppose Clark County might be the place to start as that's where the Scribner's were from, namely the Stevens Point, WI area. Perhaps someone from the town (if the family are still there or their descendants at least) will stumble across this although I doubt it as chances are nobody will be searching the internet for their aunty or aunts whom they never met or who dies long ago (both Alice and Velma). In the case of the Harveys it would be serendipity that they'd find this blog. However on the flip side of all that there maybe some gentle enquiries to be done around Steven Point, WI perhaps. And yes I can't help feel a bit sad when I read about Velma's dress...
ReplyDeleteActually I've been wracking my brains as to how I got people to start talking about Continental Flight 11 (my other blog) and really it was just time...people started coming forward after a while and got talking.
